Lindsie Smith: The Great Salt Lake Alliance is a convener, a connector and a catalyst for water innovation in Utah. We bring business, government, researchers, nonprofits and entrepreneurs to the same table to find and scale solutions for the Great Salt Lake, because we know that no single company, agency or organization can secure the lake’s future alone. Founder and CEO, Andrea Johnson, joins us with more. Andrea Johnson: I believe every child can learn to connect with others, that is why I founded the We Are Friends program. It looks simple from the outside. A lesson and a conversation. Underneath, it's a structured, research-backed approach to how children actually learn to connect. We built it around children on the autism spectrum, because that's where we saw the real science-to-practice gap. Turns out those same methods help children who need support believing in themselves, communicating with others, managing emotions and building friendships. The program uses personalized videos, music and interactive practice, giving children simple, consistent…

These stories come together in our annual printed guide, but our work continues throughout the year…
Speaking on Business: Baby's Bagels
ListenedThis is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. Born and bred in Salt Lake City, Baby’s Bagels is on a mission to bring world-class bagels to Utah. What started at the Downtown Farmers Market has grown into its first storefront, serving bagels, house-made spreads and drinks. Co-Owner, Eric Valchuis, joins us with more. Eric Valchuis: My fellow co-owners, Koby, Cyrus and I all grew up outside Boston, and we each had our neighborhood joints. Mine was Regina's Pizza. Short menu. Meticulous execution. What it lacked in service, it made up for in character. You knew what you'd get, and it was just as good as the last time. The idea for Baby's Bagels sprouted from those childhood institutions. The magic starts with the bagels: organic flour from Logan, hand-rolled, kettle-boiled, and baked fresh daily. We offer a few classic sandwiches: egg and cheese, lox, tuna, veggie. A real person takes your order while bagels come fresh from the oven and your sandwich is made in front of you. At night, Pie Boy, our pizza pop-up,…
